Sharon Newberne

Hi, I am Mrs. Newberne!   

I grew up in a small town called Gallipolis, Ohio. I committed to graduate from Gallia Academy High School in May of 1978.  I received my Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Dominican University in May of 1982. My degree was in Communications and Theater.  I worked in radio for 3 years as a reporter and announcer.  I received my second Bachelor of Arts from Roanoke College in May of 1989. I became certified to teach in grades K-6.   I committed to graduate from Virginia Tech in May of 2013 with a Master’s in Reading.

I previously taught for 27 years at Harding Avenue in Blacksburg. I have taught K, 2, 4 and 5th grades.

I am excited to be the new Reading Teacher at FBES!  Happy to be a Frog!!!

I am married to Jim Newberne.  Mr. Newberne is a retired radio announcer. He has worked at Q99, Radford University, WVRU, and WPSK.    My daughter Holly is a sophomore at Virginia Tech and she loves to ride horses. Her horses name is Zealous!  My daughter Jessica has graduated from Hollins University in 2014. She married Scott Mattox in June 2015.  Jessica is completing her Master’s Degree in English Education in May 2018!

I live in Blacksburg and love the Virginia Tech Hokies!   My pets at home are my cat “Joy” and a Ball Python named “Sammy”!
